Gungwe Secondary School - Matabeleland South

Gungwe Secondary School is a rural co-educational Secondary school which is situated about 93 km South West of Gwanda along the Gwanda-Guyu Road. Currently it has aqn enrolment of 341 pupils and staff of 13 teachers. The school became operational  in 1981 and has the following infracstructure:-
 

  • 4 classroom blocks
  • Administration block
  • 5 F4 Houses
  • 3 other teachers cottages
  • 2 blocks blair toilets
  • Science laboratory that is roofed but has no equipment
The school levy is pegged at $70-00 per child per term. It is broken down as follows:-

  General purpose Fund            $20-00
  Practical Subjects Fees          $20-00
  Building Fund                          $30-00

The Building Fund is used for maintaining buildings and completing other structures.

Future Plans

There are plans to increase the levy to about $100-00 per pupil per term.
In 1998 Combined Science (non-practical) was introduced up to "O" level. The introduction of Physics, Biology and Chemistry requires a laboratory which is fully equipped and trained teachers.
