NHLAMBABALOYI SCHOOL
  (Ntabazinduna - Mat. North)

Nhlambabaloyi Secondary School was opened in 1984 as a two form entry school with an enlrolment of between 240 and 360 pupils. Over the past 16 years the enrolment of the school has grown steadily and at present the school is a three form entry with 435 pupils and 16 teachers. 

The school has: 

- an administration block which needs repairs because it has developed cracks 

- four blocks of two classrooms each. 

- 1 Science laboratory (half a block) which is not painted and has no furniture. 

- A Home economics block which is ~75% i.e. it has to be painted, floored, plastered, glazed and furnished. 

- A agricultural unit which has to be painted. 

- 8 staff houses which are electrified. 

- 19 Blair toilets. 

- Piped water. 

These facilities indicate that the parents have done a lot and are still forging ahead but with a lot of financial constraints. 

Science Laboratory 

At present the laboratory is being improved. The 8 student benches, 46 stools, demonstration table, chalk boards and 
notice pin boards have been fitted in the laboratory at a cost of $34 000-00. The cost of furnishing the laboratory 
is more than $182 000-00. 

The building levy is $40-00 per pupil per term. This levy is for the development of the whole school, not the 
lavatories only. Sometimes the School Development Committee (SDC) has to ask for a special levy from parents 
which has assisted in the development of the school. 

Future Plans 

These involve having a full science laboratory block that is up to the required standard and which is fully furnished 
and equipped. It is only after this stage that integrated science can be re-visited. The aim will be to introduce 
Chemistry, Physics and Biology to prepare pupils for A-level science.
