SINGWANGO SCHOOL (Mat. South)

The school was opened in 1984 and consists  of the following structures:-

   1. Administration Block     - operational
   12 Classrooms                  - operational

   1 Woodwork shop            - operational

1 Home Economics Room - operational

   2 Laboratories                   - Not operational

1 Library Block                 - Not operational

   1 Agriculture Shed             - operational

   1 Building Unit                   - operational

   10 Teachers Houses          - operational

The responsible authority is the Insiza  Rural District Council. The School  Development Committee and the responsible  authority have worked hand in hand to put  up and maintain the school structures.  The SDC's special levy has been channelled  towards the payment of brick moulding and  builders.  The science block has been completed and  is presently equipped with eight (8)  laboratory desks and 32 stools. However no fittings have been done.  Also clearly 8 desks and 32 stools  between 2 rooms are inadequate.  The SDC has worked very hard to improve  the school and at a general meeting held  on 6 August 1997, the following were  agreed upon:-

1. That with effect from Term III 1997, a Special Levy of $100.00 per child per term be introduced.
2. A Science Maintenance Fund of $40.00 per pupil per year is introduced with effect from January 1998.

The special levy payable in term 3 will  be channelled towards the fittings of the science laboratory. This, however, is not  enough to get all the fittings done and  hence assistance is sought. Desks and  tools are also required.  The school has experienced a rise in its  enrolment over the past years and currently  has an enrolment of 640 pupils. The following  science subjects are currently being offered:· Integrated Science· Biology (Human and Social)  If the school had enough resources it would  offer Physics.  The Administration Block and teachers' houses  have been electrified, but due to lack of  funding electrification has not yet been  extended to other structures.

Report provided in 1999.
