Sojini Secondary School - Mat. North

Sojini Secondary School was established in 1981 as a secondary satellite school of the adjacent Cameroon Primary School. the foolowing year, the parents began building the school on its present site.

Currently the enrolment of the school stands at 460 pupils, both boys and girls. The school had 16 teachers, 6 of whom are ladies. The building programme is in Phase III, ie the following have been put up:

  • 1 administration block
  • 12 teachers' houses
  • one wing of the science block
  • Home economics block
  • One agriculture shed
  • 5 double blocks of classrooms.

The state of the laboratory needs a lot of improvement. The school has managed to engage a carpenter who has put up big shelves stradling the whole northern corner of the storeroom. The Umguza Rural District Chairman promised that some of the development money to be given to each province by the state will be used to furnish and update the equipment that we already have.

Currently the parents pay the foolowing fees:

 Tuition fees                                            $105-00
 Building fund                                         $ 12-00

 Levy                                                        $ 14-00

 G.P.                                                          $ 14-00

 Sports fee                                               $ 20-00

 Practical Subjects                                  $ 35-00

TOTAL                                                   $200-00

We (the school) have already embarked on the electrification of the school as we have already 'wired' the administration block. We are keeping fingers crossed that the Donor Agencies who have promised us this electrification money will honour their pledge. Then we will electrify the Science block so that experiments which need this power will be able to be conducted. Apart from the electrification of the laboratory, we (the school) have plans for the foolowing:

  1. Fitting taps, sinks and laboratory cupboards and provosion of the respective tall stools.
  2. Fume cupboards installation
  3. Gas cylinders and gas supply fittings.
  4. Electronic balances
  5. Completion of the other of the two laboratory buildings.

Report provided in 1999.
