Last Friday (12 November 2004), we had yet another phone in programme ku Msakazo we Sizwe SikaMthwakazi (Radio
Tshay'
Inkundla). The subject in discussion was Mthwakazi Identity.
Needless to say the response was impressive. It is good to hear some voices being added to the
characters of some of the people we talk to kuForum laku Tshati rumu. Soon we will be adding some
faces to our communications media, (TV Tshay'
Inkundla and Video Conf. are realistical possibilities, subject to funding
of course).
The callers were in agreement that we need to maintain our own unique identity as
Mthwakazian,
as opposed to being Zimbabwean and for convenience, South African.
The other points raised and discused were as follows:
The origins of the name Mthwakazi and the etymological links to Abathwa
The need for Unity and Organisation by Mthwakazi
That the situation in Mgaklaland forces people to seek other identities/backgrounds
That other commitments like employment and education takes priority in Mthwakazians' living in diaspora
That shows featuring Tuku and Ringo take priority over other public gatherings
That we have to emphasize that we are Mthwakazians when somebody asks the question "Where are you from?"
However, let us hope that next time when the callers are asked to request a song, they will ask for one from a
Mthwakazian artist!
The talking point of our next phone, which is also likely to be on Friday has been left to the listeners and others
to decide. Please feel free to make suggestions. Umsakazo ngowenu.
