Applications are invited for a limited number of The Thabo Mbeki Scholarships for Leadership in Africa which have been established by the University of Cape Town and are intended to build leadership on the continent of Africa and to support individuals in their quest to become outstanding African leaders. Factors that will be taken into account by the selection panel will include the applicant's contributions, or intended contributions to society, courage, honesty, entrepreneurship and social consciousness. Preference therefore will be given to candidates who can provide evidence of social responsibility and leadership roles in academic, community and/or civic life.
The Scholarships are available on the basis of academic merit to black students who are citizens of an African country, who are under the age of 35 years, who have achieved the Honour's degree - or equivalent - with a minimum overall mark of 65% and who intend to register at the University of Cape Town for the FIRST year of a Master's Degree in 2007 in the Natural Sciences, Technology, Health Sciences, Engineering and Economics.

Total - 1st year of study - a maximum of R85,000 (the full amount is NOT guaranteed)

Total - 2nd year of study - a maximum of R90,000 (the full amount is NOT guaranteed)
