I know the whites called it Matabeleland, but has been officially changed back to the Tswana "Matebeleland" spelling? I have noticed that both terms have been arbitrarily used in the media. Shall I conclude then that the authorities in Zimbabwe use Matebeleland and that this has been "officially" changed from the colonial Matabeleland. I however would like to stress that there is widespread confusion over the two as they are arbitrarily interchanged. For example, Wikipedia has the entry for Matabeleland as its main entry, but has sub entries for Matebeleland. This has serious implications for someone doing research for example after searching the web.
