That was their modus operanda those years. They would go to a region where their "interests" were threatened or where they felt "SOVIET expansionism" was going on unfettered, get a corrupt megalomaniac and promise to keep him in power if he does their bidding. They did it in Chile with Pinotchet, they did it in Panama with Noriega, Mobuto Seseseko, Akino, Savimbi and the list goes on. Coups that took place in several countries were at their behest and involvement, if not down to planning and excecution. In all these places/cases, the pattern was the same. The stooge would oppress the people and thousands would be killed.
Muga(xa)be was put in to counter SOVIET influence through ZAPU. Akazange awine amaelections! Ukubulawa kwabantu kabuhlungu kangakana kwenzelwa bona laba abasentshonalanga. ZIPRA were hounded out of the army and then accused of being dissidents!
The British were there, "advising". They had the power to threaten withdrawal of aid to Zimbabwe if the injustices were not stopped, but they did not. It is because it was at their behest and for their interests that all these things were done to us. The exceses may be attributed to their own depraved nature, oMga(xa)be, but all was done under tacit approval by the west.
The honours Mga(xa)be got was a reward for a job well done! The land/farms and mineral wealth awathathelwa okhokho bethu, uMgabe kept intact for the West, which Nkomo had refused to guarantee. "SOVIET influence" was checked through the mass murder of people in Matabeleland and the Midlands, most of who could not even spell "communism". They were just peasants who had no political ideology, other than irking a living to survive from day to day.
That is why Mugabe is refusing to leave through elections. Ngoba wafunda kubo ukuba amaelection results do not have to be the determining factor ukuba ngubani ozabusa.

The West is yet to change its ways. A few years back you will recall, Simon Mann was caught in Harare on his way to Equatorial Guinea to stage a coup d'etat, all financed by the West. Mugabe caught them and tried to use Simon Mann as a bargaining chip with the West to have the West relent from their determined course to get rid of him(Mugabe). It did not work. Simon Mann and his gang were disposable. However, Mugabe is telling the truth, when he says Tsvangirai is a stooge of the West, he should know. He was one himself before they dished him. Tsvangirai and Mugabe are just like izifebe ezimbili ezibanga indoda. There is nothing for us or the people of Zimbabwe there.
India, Japan and China are negotiating deals with African countries and making huge strides into Africa, but the West continues in its old ways of Colonialism, and disdain for umuntu omnyama. They will not sit at the table and negotiate with umuntu omnyama. They will only deal with us through manipulation, via some mindless stooge. I feel sorry for those who have pinned their hopes on an MDC government! They are jumping from the pan into the fire!
